“At Google, I was called self-hating for opposing Zionism”

— Anonymous Israeli Google Worker

Anonymous Israeli Googler:

During my time at Google I’ve been called –by fellow Googlers– an un-Jew, been told that people like me just hate Jews, with a “no offense” thrown in for good measure, and had my opinions called anti-semitic by the unelected people who purport to speak on behalf of all Jews at google.

I am Jewish, born and raised in Israel. I’ve done my time in the army. I still have family in Israel. I tell you these things not to give weight to my opinions, but to demonstrate that the claims directed at me have no grounding in reason. They are knee-jerk reactions I’ve gotten because I am not Zionist, and because it’s the reaction you get at google for having non-Zionist views.

To this point, many of these incidents have taken place even after Google has put in place mechanisms to keep things civil. A large part of this is because the people tasked with keeping things civil are the same unelected and biased people. If this is the sort of power structure Google allows within the Jewish community, I can’t imagine the attitude and abuse towards Palestinians at Google.
