Being a Googler is supposed to mean we belong at Google. We've proven it. Experience and work and word and deed and "artifacts" have shown that we belong at Google.

The first time I felt like I didn't belong at Google was when I'd shared an internal fundraiser in a Google-wide Forum. I was told that the phrase "Support Palestine" was offensive and anti-semitic.

I disagreed, but removed the phrase out of respect for those potentially offended. A Googler wrote that the beneficiaries of the fundraiser were anti-semitic.I fact checked, discovered that was not the case, and agreed to disagree.

A Googler asked me "why" Palestinians needed aid more than Israelis...

And I explained that while citizens of Israel have a system of Government and National Defense and Hospitals and bomb shelters, Palestinians did not. I wrote that they had no nation, and so they had no foundation of support. They were dying in greater numbers and would need more help to recover after the fighting.

A Googler wrote back, "I'm sorry the rockets are not killing enough people for you."

Googlers have told me to refer to Palestinian territories siezed in 1967 not as "occupied territories" but as "disputed territories" because not doing so is anti-semitic.

Googlers have said that my choice to identify as a "Palestinian-American" is offensive and anti-semitic.

Googlers have said and written many deeply offensive things about Palestinians and about my motives for supporting them.

I find it absurd to even have to state this, but I am not an anti-semite. I am an anti-Zionist. I am an anti-militarist. I am anti-oppression. I am anti-occupation and anti-colonialist. I am anti-surveillance and anti-over-policing of marginalized populations. I am anti-"the world’s largest open air prison."

Israel has a right to exist. So does Palestine.

I am a Palestinian American Googler. My existence is not offensive. Contrary to what some other Googlers have said, these facts aren't anti-semitic.
